Chapter 72 – Clean-up and Names

The final chapter of part 4.

Now that Tokoyo is awake (or, more precisely, she stopped pretending to be asleep), we left the throne room to run a little errand.

The only people accompanying me are Tsukiyo and Maria. Tokoyo is currently enjoying the sweets we laid out on the table, while Mio and Sera are looking after her. …Sera probably just wanted to eat some too, to be honest.

We’re heading for the underground prison where the royal family members, other than the King, are being held, …though the one who put them there in the first place is also with us.

“So, why did you lock the royal family up in the basement?”

“Once I brainwashed them, it was easier to just leave them alone, than to give them instructions all the time. And since killing them wasn’t really an option, the only other choice was to lock them up somewhere.”

When brainwashed, your ability to think is reduced to almost zero, and you will only do what you’re told, so, after brainwashing the entire royal family, she apparently decided it would be easier to leave only the King and lock up the rest, than to keep giving them all individual instructions.

“So, are you averse to killing people? There are many poor people in the capital city, but no one actually starved to death.”

“No, not at all. I intended to kill Scarlet Crimson myself.”

Right, she did say she was going to kill him to avenge her good friend whom he killed.

“I wanted to avoid causing too big of an incident and attracting too much attention. If I moved too quickly in a country neighbouring his, it might make the Crimson Empire, or even Scarlet Crimson himself, wary of me…”

And the results of that were ‘the imprisonment of the royal family’, and ‘the increase in the number of poor people, but no deaths from starvation’.

“In retrospect, it was the correct choice, since, If I had acted without regard for human life, I might have ended up as your enemy.”

“Well …all jokes aside …you were right to take care that no one died.”

I guess she understood the meaning of my words correctly, as she suddenly got slightly pale and in cold sweat.

I don’t really care about what happens to people unconnected to me, but I certainly wouldn’t want to take in someone who doesn’t care about human casualties. She was one step away from getting subjugated by us, like the Immortal King and the Silverwolf Lord.

While we were talking about this, we approached the underground prison.

“We’re almost there. Ugh, the smell!”

“Oh, so that’s what it was. This is going to be tough, isn’t it?”

We are just standing in front of the closed door to the prison, but the smell of excrement is still pouring out.

Apart from the King, the rest of the royal family got imprisoned while being robbed of their ability to think freely. There were some people put in charge of taking care of them (while also brainwashed, of course), but they all collapsed with madness about half a day ago. In that time, some things were bound to come out of them, so this was a natural result in a sense.

“Well, we can keep the smell away with ‘Air Magic’.”

“Jin-sama, I can use ‘Barrier Magic’ to create a barrier that stops the smell from coming through.”

“That skill is super convenient…”

As usual, the skills gained from the ‘Hero’ skill are super useful.

ED Reminder: ‘Hero’ skill grants its user new skills with each new level. Unfortunately, people born with it are also born with a ‘Seal LV10’ skill that permanently seals all of their other skills (until Jin removes it that is).

“Tokoyo can do something similar with her ‘Spatial Manipulation’, …though she’s not here at the moment.”

“It’s really a cheat skill, isn’t it?”

The ‘Spatial Manipulation’ skill has amazing potential. Depending on how it’s used, It might even be the strongest one I’ve seen so far.

“Well, it would be pretty mean to call her down here while she’s enjoying herself, so, Maria, if you would.”

“Yes, please leave it to me.”

Saying so, Maria used her ‘Barrier Magic’ to conjure a barrier around us, that let the air through, but not the smell, so it was almost like all the odour instantly disappeared.

“Now then, shall we go in?”

“Yes.”

“Let’s.”

Getting back on topic, the reason why we’re here is to dispel the ‘Brainwashing’ that Tsukiyo cast on the royal family.

Apparently, ‘Brainwashing’ and ‘Slave Arts’ interfere with one another, so you can’t enslave someone who’d already been brainwashed. I could probably still brute-force it, but it’s easier to just have Tsukiyo dispel it first. Plus, I was kind of curious about how the dispelling process looked, so I decided to tag along.

After discussing it with Tsukiyo, after Tokoyo woke up, I decided to effectively take control of this country. …Well, it can already be said to be ruled by Tsukiyo, so, in a sense, I’m taking over as her new master.

Of course, It’s actually Alta who’s going to take care of that from behind the scenes. Honestly, I was fine with just leaving it be from now on, but Alta said she wanted to try out some things, so, in the end, I decided to leave it in her care. I wonder what she’ll do with it…

Naturally, the rest of the royal family will also be enslaved. I could just make them into my subordinates with ‘Engage Link’ instead, but then, we’d have to get their consent first, and it would take forever to explain everything.

I guess, with that, the number of royals among my subordinates will increase once again. I already have five, if you count Dora, Yuria, Sakuya, Cattleya and Rouge. …What’s that? You’re saying having five of them is already weird enough? Ahahaha.

ED Reminder: Dora has a title ‘Princess of the Dragon Race’, while Yuria, the high-elf girl with amnesia from Claude’s group has: ‘Elven Shrine Maiden Princess’ and ‘Elven Royalty’.

When I opened the door, the scene inside was pretty much what I’d expected. More than 10 royal family members just sitting there and staring into the void. Young and old, male and female, all of them stark naked and covered in filth.

“Yeah. This is pretty terrible.”

There’s not the slightest hint of human dignity here. To be honest, I’m a bit disgusted by it.

“For now, let’s just tidy them up a bit with ‘Clean’.”

“Yes. I’ll call some maids over.”

With that, Maria used ‘Summon’ to summon 10 more maids. …Still, ‘Summon’ is a spell that can only be used on those under you, like subordinates, followers and servants. What exactly is their relationship…?

Next, the maids, Maria and I went on a cleaning spree. For now, we stopped once we no longer had to use Maria’s ‘Barrier Magic’.

“Now then, I will now dispel the ‘Brainwashing’. They won’t regain consciousness for at least an hour after that, so, if you want to enslave them, you should probably do it before then.”

“Jin-sama, please leave the ‘Slave Arts’ to the maids.”

As she said that, the maids, who were waiting nearby, all lined up in front of me. I already checked while we were cleaning the place, but they all have ‘Slave Arts’ as well.

“Please leave it to us, Master.” x10

All ten of them bowed in perfect sync. At times like this, I can’t help but wonder if they practice it beforehand.

“Now then, let’s begin…”

Tsukiyo said, as she started to dispel the ‘Brainwashing’, while the ‘Slave Arts’ team waited some distance away. They probably didn’t want to interfere.

She used her skill on one of the royals (naked), a girl of roughly the same age as me.

“Ah! Aaaaaaaaaaaaaargh…”

The girl (naked) continues to scream, while writhing and twitching.

“Will she be OK?”

“She’ll be fine. There shouldn’t be any after-effects…”

“And if there are…?”

“I can live with that…”

“…”

…Tsukiyo might also be an evil monster after all. At the very least, she has no compassion for humans. Well, she’s a monster, so I guess that’s fitting in a way.

“While it takes a lot of time to cast ‘Brainwashing’ on someone, it can be dispelled in no time. See? Already done.”

“Aargh. Argh. Ugh.”

With her convulsions now subsided, the girl (naked) lost consciousness. Immediately, the maids rushed over to perform the ‘Slave Arts’, that succeeded without any issues. Yeah, this is much faster than brute-forcing it…

A: Under the influence of ‘Brainwashing’, one has almost no will to resist.

“Well then, let’s keep going.”

Tsukiyo used her skill on the other royals (naked) in turn to dispel their ‘Brainwashing’, so, soon, they all got successfully released, and became my slaves instead.

After that, they were taken to the mansion for what Alta referred to as ‘adjustment’. As a side note, one needs to be conscious to use ‘Portal’, so they were summoned to the mansion by one of the slave traders instead.

Having sent the royal family (naked) back to the mansion, we decided to return to the throne room. Looking at the map, I can see people other than the maids moving around, so they are probably palace staff members that have already returned after being ‘adjusted’ by Alta.

…Weirdly enough, their markers are all yellow now. It’s pretty scary that there’s even a pretty big (and slightly obese) old nobleman among them. 

A: I’m not going to allow for another mistake, like in Rogue’s case, to happen ever again.

Having Rouge rant to me after becoming one of my subordinates must have been a major blunder for Alta. As I was thinking about that, the old nobleman suddenly started shaking and dropped to his knees on the spot.

A: I reminded them once again, just in case.

‘Brainwashing’ is certainly pretty scary, but I think Alta might be even scarier at times.

Still, not everyone has returned just yet, mostly the people involved in communicating with the outside world. With the drawbridge raised for a whole day, various things probably got delayed, so most of them are likely civil servants.

Alta must have explained the situation to them already. When we walked past them, they all gave us a polite nod, but there were no exaggerated reactions.

We arrived at the throne room, but the King doesn’t seem to be back yet.

I’ve talked about how ‘Brainwashing’ interferes with ‘Slave Arts’ before, but in fact, ‘Madness’ should also be added to this. It seems that the dispelling of the King’s brainwashing didn’t go as smoothly, because he got infected with madness while brainwashed, so, it was necessary to forcibly enslave him to invalid both the ‘Brainwashing’ and the ‘Madness’ at the same time. The mental burden on him was pretty heavy, so he’s currently recuperating in the mansion.

After returning to the throne room, we decided to have a discussion about Tsukiyo and Tokoyo’s futures.

“So, what do you two want to do from now on?”

“Well, I don’t really mind. For now, you can be the chief fluffer in my mansion until I come up with something else. (ED: lit. person in charge of fluffiness)

“Fluffer?”

Tsukiyo tilted her head to the side.

“Yeah, a fluffer. It’s a simple job really. All you have to do is let me pet your fur whenever I feel like it. I told you that I’ll give you a thorough stroking later, didn’t I?”

“R-Right, you did say that…”

“After we get back to the mansion, let’s have some fun tonight.”

“W-Well… if you say it like that, I guess it can’t be helped…”

I feel like she might have misunderstood my words a bit, but a promise is a promise. Let’s make it extra fluffy.

“You come too, Tokoyo.”

“Jin-sama, did you already get tired of my ears…”

Maria muttered with her ears drooped.

“If you’d like to, Maria, you’re welcome to join us as well.”

“I will! Please let me join!”

Maria came at me with tremendous momentum. Honestly, I was already counting you in from the beginning. Same for Dora, obviously.

“Must be nice for you, Master. I’d also love to pet some fluffy animals…”

“Don’t you have Potechi, Mio?”

The Fairy Wolf, Potechi, is Mio’s tamed monster. She should be able to pet her as much as she wants.

“She has really hard hair. When you try to pet her, it’s more of a scratchy sensation…”

“Potechi is really pitiful…”

Doesn’t she treat Potechi pretty roughly, though? She was put in a kennel and forced to do tricks…

“Of course not! She wags her tail energetically when I feed her, and I take her for a walk once a day.”

“Oh, looks like you’re actually taking good care of her.”

Still, she turned into a total pet dog, didn’t she? Living in a kennel, being looked after, waggling 

her tail when she’s fed, and asking to be taken for a walk…

“That’s right. She’s my first tamed monster after all. She’s such a cute, bad girl!

“Wait, is she a bad girl then…?”

“She’s a bad girl!”

“So, she’s a bad girl, huh?”

“A super bad girl!”

Looks like she loves Potechi, but is still pretty rough with her in the end.

Now that all that fluffy talk was over, We decided to return to the mansion. What’s that? We forgot to decide on Tsukiyo and Tokoyo’s futures? …Oh well.

Having returned to the Kastal mansion, we are having lunch that the maids had prepared for us. Of course, Tsukiyo and Tokoyo are also here.

Apparently, Sakura and Dora went to the library while we were away. She was telling me earlier about how she helps Dora learn to read, and then they read picture books together. She’d make a great mom.

“It’s not just the sweets, the food here is also delicious, isn’t it?”

“Ugh, I ate too much before…”

Tsukiyo praised the pizza slice she was having for lunch, while Tokoyo lamented she didn’t have room for more after all the sweets she ate earlier.

After eating some pizza-like dishes during our visit to Rigant Principality (ED: first country they visited in the Atto Union), Mio put her all into it, and after much trial and error, she finally managed to reproduce the Earth’s pizza. Very Good Job, Mio!

“Master asked me not to compromise when it comes to food. To be honest, I think he eats much better than most royalty.”

“I used to eat like a royal family, it doesn’t even compare…”

These are some pretty rave reviews, considering how, while ruling the Kingdom, both Tsukiyo and Tokoyo used to eat like the Narnka royal family.

“Exactly! We’ve already won over a couple royals with it!”

“Now that you mention it, I did hear before that the Chamber of Advanced Commerce is also a major seller of food products!

I wonder how far our food will go?

A: I think the highest the ‘Cooking’ skill can get is level 10.

It will, won’t it? I’d like to try food of that level one day…

While I was thinking about that, Sakura and Dora returned from the library.

“We’re back…”

Sakura entered the mansion holding hands with Dora, which made them look real close.

“You’re back, Jin-kun… How did the taming go?”

“As you can see, these two are my new subordinates, a mother and daughter Golden Foxes, Tsukiyo and Tokoyo.”

“It’s a pleasure to meet you. My name is Tsukiyo.”

“Tokoyo. Nice to meet you.”

“Yes, it’s nice to meet you too… I’m Sakura… huh?”

Sakura tilted her head looking at me.

“Were you the one to name them, Jin-kun…? I thought you were going with names of sweets…”

“Ah… I totally forgot.”

A tamed monster can be given a name even if it already has one, but, since I already called Tsukiyo and Tokoyo by their own names, it totally slipped my mind. So far, I’ve named all the monsters I’ve tamed in the Atto Union after various sweets, so it probably made Sakura wonder.

“Right… I thought your names didn’t sound like the work of Jin-kun…”

“…”

Isn’t that a roundabout way of saying that I don’t have a good naming sense? Let’s see: Dora, Tamo-san, Midori, Tiramisu, Maple, Chocolate… Nope! Nothing wrong with either of them!

“Tsukiyo, Tokoyo, I can change both of your names, but would you like me to?”

“I don’t really care about my own, but could you please leave Tokoyo her old name?”

“Because her late parents named her?”

“…Yes, that’s right.”

Tokoyo’s name was given to her by her late parents, so giving her a new one now would be like taking away her precious memory of them. It would be a pretty awful thing to do.

“I’ve heard from some of my other monster subordinates that once they got tamed by me,  they had a sudden urge to be named by me, so I thought I’d ask…”

“…To be honest, I am feeling a bit itchy. Now that you mention it, …I do want to get one from you. Ah, now I won’t be able to stop thinking about it!”

Tsukiyo said while rubbing her inner thighs together. Her eyes are also getting a little moist.

“She’s starting to look a bit obscene.”

“You’re one sexy vixen, aren’t you?” (ED: lit. ero-fox)

Sera pointed out, while Mio went in a totally different direction once again. I’m not really a fan of the term ‘sexy vixen’ though… No, I think it’s starting to grow on me.

“Tokoyo also feels weird…”

It seems like both of them are already tingling.

Is it a part of their monster instinct to want to be named? But the harpies other than Chocolate weren’t really affected by it.

A: It seems the tendency is stronger with ‘Rare’ monsters.

Come to think of it, the ‘Rare’ Tamo-san was the first to ask for a name. On the other hand, Dora, who isn’t a ‘Rare’ monster, didn’t ask for one, did she? Right, I just gave her one on my own…

“But, I don’t want to lose the name I got from my first mother…”

“Tokoyo…”

Tsukiyo said with a troubled face.

Let’s see. Both of them have ‘night’ in their names. Tokoyo’s name was given to her by Tsukiyo’s good friend, so I wonder if she (Tokoyo) wasn’t actually named after her (Tsukiyo).

If possible, I’d like to leave them both their names, but is that even still possible at this point. What to do…?

“Okay, I’ve decided. From now on, your names will be ‘Tsukiyo’ and ‘Tokoyo’.”

I decided to give them the same names as before. If I’m right, it should satisfy their instincts while letting them keep their relationships unchanged.

“You mean, you gave us the same names? Then… Ah, the itching has subsided.”

“Tokoyo is better too…”

“It’s a bit of a trick, but I’m glad it worked.”

To be honest, it’s pretty hard to rename someone who already has a name, so I’m glad that it worked…

“By the way, what would you have named them?”

After that, Sakura and Dora joined us for lunch. As they were just about done, the three monster girls also arrived, and with that, all the monsters I’ve tamed in the Atto Union have gathered. …Tiramisu will also be included in that group for the time being. (ED: He tamed the egg back in Kastal, but it stayed in his inventory for a long time)

“Oh, as expected from Master. You’ve already tamed the Golden Fox.”

“Yeah, we wrapped it up before noon, just as planned.”

Tsukiyo must have met Maple in her Sea Serpent form in the past, so she probably felt familiar, but Tsukiyo couldn’t really place her.

“I’m the Sea Serpent. It’s been a long time.”

“Ah! The Sea Serpent! I knew you felt familiar somehow. Were you also…?”

“Yes, that’s right. I’m here because Master tamed me.”

“Is that so? Then, that means you must have also fought against Shindou-sama, right?”

Tsukiyo addresses me as ‘you’ (ED: 貴方様 – a very respectful way of addressing someone, but it does translate as ‘you’), but, when talking to others, she refers to me as ‘Shindou-sama’. It’s been a while since I’ve last been called by my surname, probably not since Sakura and I agreed to call each other by our first names to avoid all the hassle. That Kusakabe bastard also used to call me ‘Shindou’. That little…

“Of course. But I wouldn’t really call it a fight.”

“That’s right. It was so one-sided, one could hardly even call it ‘fighting’. More like ‘being toyed with’.”

“Oh, It was the same with this Mistress.”

Chocolate decided to join their conversation.

“Oh, then, what about you two?”

“I’m Chocolate, the Harpy Queen.”

“Tyrannosaurus, Tira-chan ☆ Nice to meet you ♪”

“Yes, nice to meet you too.”

“Also, I have a name, Maple, now, so please call me that from now on.”

Maple introduced herself as if she’d just remembered about it. I’m sure they must have first met a long time ago, but they probably didn’t introduce themselves with their names at the time, given that Maple never mentioned that the Golden Fox already has a name.

“Yes, my name is Tsukiyo, and this is my daughter, Tokoyo.”

“I’m Tokoyo. Nice to meet you.”

“Nice to meet you.”

“Yeah, nice to meet you.”

When the greetings were over, Mio muttered to me.

“Hey, Master. Isn’t Chocolate also pretty fluffy?”

“…Oh, you’re right.”

Chocolate is a Harpy Queen, and that means feathers. I should include her in the fluff-fest.

“Fluffy? What are you two talking about?”

“Master is going to fondle the Golden Foxes, Maria and Dora later. Do you want to join them?”

“What!? What an indecent thing to say!”

Chocolate’s face turned bright red. Also, that’s a major exaggeration, Mio, I was only going to gently stroke them.

“Well, if you say it’s indecent. …I guess Chocolate won’t be joining you, Master.”

“W-wait. That’s not what I said. I also… I mean. Please let me join as well…”

Completely red-faced and with downcast eyes, Chocolate announced her participation.

“My skin is rather slippery, so I guess I won’t be joining you.”

“Tira-chan as well ☆ Even if I dispel my ‘Transformation’, my skin is all rough and rugged, so it’s even more impossible ☆ How about we join you in our human form, Honey ♪?”

“Sorry. Humans don’t have any fur to stroke, so that kind of defeats the point.”

There’s really no point including hairless monsters or people in the fluff-fest if they have no fluffy bits to enjoy.

“Then, would you like me to gather other beastmen from among your subordinates?”

“No, let’s not go that far.”

“As you wish.”

If I asked Maria or Lucia to do that, they would totally blow it out of proportion, so let’s hold back for now. Fluffiness is supposed to heal your mental state, so it’s not something you can really enjoy when there’s an obligation to pet everyone there. That’s why, this time around, let’s keep it down to a group that I can keep at an arm’s reach.

Two hours after the meal, I called the people I was going to pet into my room. The participants are Dora, Maria, Tsukiyo, Tokoyo, Chocolate, and Coco, a dog beast-man from the Adventurers’ group who also requested to join us after Mio told her all about it.

The reason why it took so long is because the girls needed some time to finish their meal and then get ready. Other than Dora and Tokoyo, the girls all said that they needed to take a bath before, so we agreed to meet two hours later.

All the participants came to the room dressed in light nightgowns. At first glance, it may look like a scene that might happen under the influence of the ‘Lust’ curse mark, but we’re just going to have some light skinship.

“Now then. Dora, please change into your Dragon form, Chocolate, in your Harpy form, and Maria and Coco’s ears and tails should be easy enough to stroke as is.”

“Yes~!”

“Very well.”

“Understood.”

“Got it.”

Each of them transformed and or stripped their nightgowns to get ready to be petted. Now, what to do about the mother and daughter Golden Foxes.

“What should we do?”

“To begin with, what forms can you transform into?”

If I don’t know what they can change into, I won’t be able to decide how to best enjoy their fluffiness.

“The main ones would be human, 2m long fox, and beastman with ears and tail. As for Tokoyo, she’s about 50cm long in her fox form.”

“Yes.”

“All right. Then, Tsukiyo, in your beastman form, and Tokoyo as a fox, please.”

“Got it.”

“Okay.”

It’s a great opportunity to enjoy both the fox and the beastman form, and, since there are two of them, let’s have them take one each. Plus, we can always change things up later. Once they both transformed, what appeared were Tsukiyo with a fluffy tail and fox ears, and Tokoyo as a fox with fluffy fur. Tsukiyo removed her nightgown, but, weirdly enough, Tokoyo’s disappeared when she transformed into her fox form.

Now, everyone is ready.

“Let the fluff-fest begin…”

In the end, I spent the rest of the day enjoying an endless supply of fluffiness.

It was a very fulfilling day, a perfect finale for our final day of free activities in the Atto Union.
