Big Bodhi

Chapter 32: Swallowing Clouds

Creak.

Ji Yue Nian pushed open the door and quietly looked at the familiar furnishings in the study. After a long moment of silence, he picked up the ancient book that Ji Bugui had read from the desk and put it inside the white jade ring, then he turned straight and walked out.

“Grand Duke, the carriage is ready, we can leave at any time.”

Ji Bugui had already changed into a luxurious satin robe and stood respectfully outside Ji Yue Nian’s study, speaking cautiously.

Ji Yue Nian nodded slightly and said, “This time you are willing to take great risks to help me suppress Ji Luo Yan, Ji Hong and the others, that is very good.”

“The eldest son is serious,” Ji Bugui said with a smirk: “It was all because of Grand Duke’s planning in the first place, Ji Bugui does not dare to take credit for it.”

Just as these words fell, a magnificent carriage carved in gold and jade slowly drove in from the outer mansion and stopped before the side hall.

Because of Ji Yuenian’s special instructions, Ji Luohai, Xu Jianghe and others did not come to see them off, and now there are only a dozen or so people in this side hall.

One of the Ji family guards came forward to lift the curtain of the carriage for Ji Yue Nian, while the other knelt on the ground under the carriage as a pedal.

Ji Yue Nian got into the carriage and said, “Let’s go.”

The carriage driver was a young man of about eleven or twelve years old, and when he heard Ji Yue Nian speak, he answered in a crisp voice: “Yes, Your Highness!”

Ji Bugui stood in place, quietly looking at the carriage that was gradually going away on the official road in Anyang City, with a somewhat complicated expression.

It was only when the carriage had distantly left the gates of Anyang City that he turned and walked into the side hall.

……

There are eight capital cities in the inner city. Anyang City is located in the northwest corner of the city, while the He Yun Guan, where Daoist Crane Xuan is located, is in Tun Yun City, which is directly east of the city.

It was already early in the morning, and a brilliant golden sunset stretched across the sky, dispersing all the remaining greyness of the long night.

Ji Yue Nian stopped his practice and opened his eyes slightly inside the carriage, saying softly, “Even though you are young, you are so skilful in driving the carriage, swift and smoothly, very good.”

The young man’s voice was a little shrill, and he did not turn around, but simply answered in a brittle voice: “Your Excellency, I have been working as a coachman at the Snowfall Pavilion since I was eight years old, and it has been four years since then, so I am the most skilful coachman inside and outside the Ji family.”

In his tone, there was a hint of self-satisfaction.

“What is your name?”

“Your grand duke, I come from a side bloodline and am named Ji Buyu.”

Ji Yue Nian nodded gently and said, “No wonder Ji Bu Gui arranged for you to drive, you are indeed very eloquent.”

Ji Bu Yuyu’s tone gradually dropped, and there was a hint of sadness in it, “I originally drove for the family head’s wife and took orders from the Snowfall Pavilion. The previous lady was brutally killed, and I was transferred by the current owner to serve the eldest son. ”

As they spoke, they had already arrived at the magnificent gates of Tun Yun City.

Several green-robed city guards came over and took a closer look at the luxurious carriage, looking unconsciously more respectful.

One of them said respectfully, “I wonder which inner city’s nobleman you are from?”

Ji Buyu slowly stopped the carriage, his big black and white eyes looked at the person who spoke and said, “The Anyang Ji family.”

The city guards looked more and more respectful and they all moved out of the way, leading the carriage towards the city gate that was more than ten feet wide.

Unlike the rest of the inner cities, Tun Yun City was the home of the Heyun Temple, and there were many descendants of Taoist Crane Xuan’s sons and daughters in this city, and most of the people who had kindled the fire of the heart within the boundaries of the ancient city of Tai Chu came from Tun Yun City.

The city is slightly cold, the official road above the pedestrians and carriages are sparse. Ji Buyu drove the carriage and went straight to the Heyun Temple in the centre of the city.

“Falling Snow Pavilion, if I remember correctly, it is the pavilion where Xu Lian’er and Ji Xixue are?”

Ji Yue Nian spoke in a soft voice.

Ji Buyu’s gaze darkened for a moment and said, “Your grand duke, yes.”

After a moment of silence, he gathered his courage again and asked in a low voice, “Grand Duke, I would like to know, what crime has the family head’s wife committed?”

“Xu Lian’er?” Ji Yue Nian did not move with anger, but only shook his head gently, “She’s innocent.”

Ji Buyu’s voice trembled slightly, and he was already crying, “The family head’s wife treats people extremely well, never being as harsh and cold as the rest of the main lineage, and she is extremely caring towards me. If she was really innocent, why did she die a horrible death?”

The night before, when Xu Lian’er was slapped to death by the Third Elder, Ji Buyu was still in the village outside Anyang Prefecture and did not know the circumstances.

Although he was a member of the Ji family, he was of the thinnest bloodline and had no residence or house in Anyang City.

Xu Lian’er had bought a small house for him in the fourth house of the main family, but Ji Buyu still returned to Mafu Town every night to be with his parents, and never stayed in Anyang City.

After a long time, he did not hear any answer from the person behind him, so Ji BuYu did not dare to ask any more questions, but his eyes gradually became moist as he thought of how good Xu Lian’er had been to him.

“A black-robed youth of the early Xuan realm came over and looked at the carriage, “Who is this?”

The carriage had already reached the outside of He-Yun Guan.

Just as Ji Buyu was about to speak, the curtain of the carriage behind him was lifted, and Ji Yue Nian stepped out of the carriage.

“Ji Yue Nian from the Ji family.”

The black-robed youth was stunned for a moment, his face was a little surprised as he said, “It turned out to be Young Master Ji. I have also heard about Young Master Ji’s return from the Qingluan Mountains, which is really surprising.”

He seemed to want to say something but then stopped.

Ji Yue Nian vaguely saw what he was thinking and said, “Is Taoist friend wondering why the visitor is not Ji Xixue?”

The black-robed youth nodded and said, “That’s right, the Anyang Ji Family has produced a heavenly pride of the sixth rank of the Heart Flame Sequence that shook the entire Tai Chu Ancient City, so I did think that the Ji Family’s visitor would be that Ji Magixue.”

After a pause, he added, “Let’s go, I’ll take you into the observation.”

Ji Yue Nian nodded and followed the black-robed youth as he stepped into the gates of the exterior of the Heyun Temple.

Ji Buyu got onto the carriage alone and was warming his hands with a breath when an extremely surprised voice came from behind him, “Cousin!”

The two carriages stopped one after another at the side of the Ji family’s carriage, and a handsome young man dressed in a moon-white robe got out of the carriage and came towards Ji Buyu.

Ji Buyu pondered for a long time before he remembered who this person was.

The second son of the Zhao family, Zhao Xiaoyun, who had entered the upper Xuan realm of cultivation, and Ji Yuenian was his closest cousin.

Zhao Xiaoyun stopped and realised that the carriage was empty before he turned his head towards Ji Buyu and said, “Is the person coming here the Grand Duke Ji Yue Nian?”

Ji Buyu nodded and said, “Yes.”

Zhao Xiaoyun’s face showed a trace of joy as he said, “The Zhao family is extremely close to the Ji family’s Anyang City, and I have just received news from the Ji family that my cousin has not only returned unharmed, but has also suppressed all the curves.
