Chapter 41.1 - A Descending Cat (1)

Although her only cat ally was a slightly wishy washy ragdoll cat, it was better than nothing. Afterall, if they could catch Yan Yafei in the act of abusing a cat, Yuan Mo, given that type of scare, would probably awaken.

If he still didn’t wake up, then it was enough to say that the guy had no effective medicine left and could just be left there.

“What are you thinking about in that brain of yours? You seem down, careful of creases on your face,” Luo Ke said as she walked into her office and let Lin Sifei down on the table.

Looking down, Luo Ke saw the little stripes on Lin Sifei’s forehead and couldn’t help but laugh, “It’ll probably grow along these little stripes you have.”

Lin Sifei didn’t understand her for a few moments, looking at Luo Ke, puzzled.

Luo Ke, of course, wouldn’t repeat what she just said, so she just pretended like nothing happened and opened her computer.

Lin Sifei scrunched up her cat face as she jumped up to a pile of files and saw her reflection in the window, seeing the markings on her face. She froze, and then turned towards Luo Ke, mouth slightly open.

Her paws were itching a little as well.

Luo Ke peeked at her, and seeing her pupils become oval and long, hurriedly and silently raised a manila folder to block herself, “I was wrong.”

“Mreow!” Lin Sifei leapt onto her head and messed up her hair.

Quickly, Luo Ke’s neat hair became a hen’s nest shape, and a few wisps of her hair floated down to lay on her shoulder.

“Chair Luo, President Chen is here.”

“There was no need to tell her beforehand, I wanted to give her a surprise.”

But then Zhao Min and President Chen stood at the entrance to her office, taking in someone’s hair in a nest shape and a cat lying in the middle of the ess.

When their eight eyes met, no one spoke.

In the silence, Zhao Min gasped and hurriedly used her upper arm strength to slam the heavy wooden door shut, causing the entire office floor to feel some rumble.

“Was there an earthquake?”

“Seems to be gone, continue working.”

Back in the office, Lin Sifei realized that she had caused some trouble, so she hurriedly jumped down from Luo Ke’s head.

As Luo Ke took out the clips from her hair, Lin Sifei hurriedly pulled open a drawer and clasped the comb and mirror between her paws, bringing them to Luo Ke.

Luo Ke quickly redid her hair, putting it up into another sophisticated bun, and used the comb to poke at Lin Sifei’s belly in the process.

Lin Sifei lifted her paws to wave them at Luo Ke, and also bared her teeth.

Luo Ke placed the mirror and comb back, and then walked over to her office door to open it with an apologetic smile, “I apologize, President Chen, that was impolite of me.”

“No problem, I understand since I also have a cat,” President Chen laughed as he walked into the office, only to see Lin Sifei sitting calmly on the table.

""

“Won’t your cat push stuff to the floor if you let it sit on the table?” President Chen asked, making a wide gesture with his hands.

The fur on Lin Sifei’s neck stood up and she looked towards Luo Ke. President Chen definitely did seem like an experienced cat owner, unlike Luo Ke… maybe she could learn from him?

Still, se stood up and stalked over to Luo Ke’s thick folders of files, stretching out a paw to nudge at it. Unfortunately, she underestimated how heavy it was, so it left her in an awkward position, causing her claws to pop out and she scored it down the folder a few times.

“It’s sharpening its claws,” President Chen laughed again, “Chair Luo could do with a scratching device in here.”

Luo Ke smiled and nodded, and then shot Lin Sifei a quick glance.

Lin Sifei felt her cheeks heating up and she lowered her head but continued to claw at the papers robotically.

Luo Ke, seeing her, couldn’t help but start chuckling.

President Chen, sitting next to her, looked puzzled at her sudden outburst, but then let it go just as quickly. After all, raising a cat always lifts their owners’ spirits.

“Chair Luo, I’m here to discuss that large investment we talked about before. Currently, in the market, it’s still difficult to set up an in-person location, so if we go in blindly we might lose a lot.”

“If President Chen didn’t plan to do this project, you wouldn’t have come to me,” Luo Ke shifted her body position to look at him face to face, “What do you think is a safer plan then.”

“If you asked me…”

Lin Sifei just listened to them analyze their profits, their markets, but she couldn’t understand a single thing. Clearly they were still speaking the same language as her but to her it seemed like a galaxy away.

She licked her lips, not wanting to disturb Luo Ke, so she jumped off the table and scurried out the door.

She had originally just wanted to find a cool, relaxing place to rest for a bit, or maybe go find some gossip.

She hooked her tail up as she skipped through the hallways, trying to find a suitable spot.

“Aya! Kitty!”

The slightly familiar child sound made Lin Sifei pause in her tracks and look towards the sound. Upon looking, she saw Chen Mingsi, in a white tshirt and jeans, barreling towards her.

She opened her mouth but hadn’t yet meowed before Chen Mingsi was on her and had picks her up.

Lin Sifei kicked her hind legs out, trying to escape for some time, but Chen Mingsi adjusted how she held Lin Sifei and carried her towards a table.

“Kitty, let’s play games together. Last time, I tried to make our cat at home play games with me, but she didn’t even bother with me.”

Lin Sifei glanced at her quickly, full of unhappiness. In this child’s eyes, was she just an emotionless tool for gaming?

As she was internally complaining, Chen Mingsi placed her on a little table and took out a food tin, “These are the cookies my mom made, they are so good!”

She opened the lid, immediately causing a very delicious scent to waft out. Lin Sifei’s nose moved and she couldn’t help but lean forward to look.

It was definitely a large enough portion for both her and Chen Mingsi, so she let go of her worries and thought, playing with the kid is fine.

She meowed and swiped her tail around, obediently sitting up on the table.

Chen Mingsi, seeing that she didn’t run away, broke off a piece of a cookie to bribe her. And when Lin Sifei leaned down to eat it, Chen Mingsi hurriedly took out her phone and tapped into the hub of the game.

As Lin Sifei chewed, she saw that the game Chen Mingsi was playing was a different one than last time’s, but it was still the same concept at its core.

She patted her paws clean on a napkin, and then furiously tapped on the phone screen. It had been some time and she had had more than enough training of using a phone in her cat form, so she could precisely tap on places that were advantageous to them.

Chen Mingsi’s ranking flew up, which made her quite happy and she inched her chair towards Lin Sifei, watching her play.

After another round of furious tapping, Chen Mingsi directed the character she played into a safe corner and gave Lin Sifei another piece of cookie.

As Lin Sifei chewed on the cookie, Chen Mingsi smiled, talking to her. Maybe it was because she also did this to her cat at home, so the girl didn’t think that talking to a cat was anything strange.

“I’ve finally changed my name, by myself. But that uncle who worked there said that I had to choose the surname of one of my relatives, so I choose my mom’s surname, and I’m now called Su Binglian.”

She lowered her voice and moved even closer to Lin Sifei’s ears, “My mom and dad still don’t know yet.”

Lin Sifei looked at the little girl in front of her with dead eyes. Well, at least she was sure that the girl was the one who was Yan Yafei’s fanatic fan in the book.

The cookie didn’t taste as good anymore.

Lin Sifei, seeing her innocent demeanor, remembered Luo Ke, who was in negotiations with President Chen. She surmised, maybe later in the book, when Luo Ke’s company had a lot of problems arise, President Chen also participated in making the situation worse. After all, in the book, his daughter had wanted a connection with Yuan Mo.

At this point, Lin Sifei reached out her paws and messed Chen Mingsi’s hair up into a nest shape.

Chen Mingsi didn’t even get angry, instead laughing out loud, and continuing to pet her, but messing her fur up. Lin Sifei did want her fur to be tidy, as her cat habit dictated, but she really didn’t feel like grooming herself with her tongue.
