This is the ability of his Shadow-Shadow Fruit. He can absorb the shadows of others into his own body, gaining the power, skills, and techniques of the shadow’s owner. These shadows are the spoils he collected along his journey.

The people he defeats are not all killed, but instead, he takes away their shadows.

Those who lose their shadows are not affected in any other way, except that they can never be exposed to sunlight. Once bathed in sunlight, they will be reduced to ashes.

However, as long as they are alive, the shadows will continue to exist. Present-day Moria has no intention of creating a large number of zombies. These shadows are his means of strengthening himself.
