Another Chance In Life: I Am Alive Again

I slowly opened my eyes and I saw a familiar place. I was back at my consciousness or it was what I called it now. It was still as dark as it was before however the twinkling stars above the night sky were distinctly seen as it covers the entirety of the space. There was also a tinge of blue lights that slowly moves on the horizon. You can see it slightly moving like a wave from the ocean. Wondering what those blue lights were, I stretched my nonexistent hands to get a feel for it but to no avail.

I guess it does not work that way, there must be another way to be able to find out more about this mysterious place. It has been a long time since I came here, I believe it was when I was just born and the realization that I was alone hit me.

I started to think that maybe my minds unstable state might be the cause of me being able to enter this state. I might need to experiment if ever I get back to my body. I am not even sure if I can get back or if my sister is still alive. While having these thoughts the starry sky that was unmoving seemed to have started to form something, I could not recognize what it was but there were some changes that your eyes could not simply tell if I were not staring intently at it.

I am really starting to think how this environment can be beneficial to my body or mind since I keep coming back to this place. I've tried to look at the books my sister kept bringing in my room and see hints but most of the books she brings are about swordsmen, adventures and monster biographies.

This is depressing, I wanted to get out of here but I don't know how. I do not know how long I've been here since there is only darkness, there is no cycle for day to night.

I could only sigh and wait here as my consciousness floats in this environment.

At the mansion

"Honey, it's been 3 days and Max is still asleep, I am getting worried," Anna said sorrowfully to his husband while c.a.r.e.s.sing Max's hand. Her eyes are swollen red and her figure seemed thinner than before.

"Don't worry Anna, the doctor and priest said nothing is wrong with Max. It was only a case of mana overuse." Robert consoled Anna with his words although his figure cut a sorry state too. His sleep-deprived eyes can be a testament that he is also worried but does not want to make matters worse for his wife.

"That is the problem, Robert. There were some cases of people who are not aware of how to control their mana which causes permanent damage to their soul power. It was already a miracle that Max is still alive and breathing. He does not even know how to use magic." Anna was already sobbing while stating those facts to his husband. His husband who was already aware of it could only keep quiet and listen to his wife's sorrows.

"If I knew that he has potential with magic then I would have made preparations but since he was not able to speak I thought that it was going to be impossible." Both had the same thing in their minds. Who would have thought that little Max who does not know incantations and mana control would be able to use a level 2 healing spell cure.

The people in their world would be put to a mana test at the age of 5. It was an old tradition since the time when the great mages and magic towers were first assembled and propagated. It was said that at 5 children will start to develop their soul power which will show if they are compatible with mana or any elemental force. It must be known that the chance of being a mage is 1 out of 1000 people. If by the age of 5 and a child does not develop the body for mana consumption then they do not have any talent for it. On the other hand, aura control can be developed through proper training and hard work, the chances of being an aura master was 1 out of 100. There are also some medicinal pills that can help breakthrough one's aura potential, unlike a mage. People believed that once their children become a mage can help their lives to become better and their standing in society to rise. This, in fact, is true as the magic towers great mages register all children who have potential. The more potential one has the better conditions the magic towers will provide. Even the lowest of the mages are treated better than lower class nobilities.

They were worried since Max consumed all his mana and they do not know the condition of his soul power. When the body does not contain enough mana to support a spell they then start to consume their soul power which is dangerous for the caster. Mana is an external force that when consumed can be replenished through meditation, however, soul power is an internal force which is the basis for a mages 'potential. Up to this day, there are no resources or knowledge that is known to replenish the soul power of a mage.

While the husband and wife were discussing, a soft sound of footsteps can be heard. The steps were unhurried and feels like the steps were undecided. The footsteps stops at the door but there was no knock or sound that can be heard. It had already been a couple minutes as you can see a shadow from the door gap. Both of them looked at the door waiting for the person to enter. They could only sigh at the sight of the door hoping that the other person would open it however, the persons' footsteps were suddenly heard again but this time somewhat hurried. The person ran back to where they came from after standing at the door for some time.
