An Upgraded Soul

Chapter 169 - Reversal

No matter how many magazines Thomas and others shot, Divit, who was cowering, remained unaffected. Let alone Divit, even his clothes did not have a tear on them. Thomas did not dare to use grenades as the resulting explosive sound might alert people outside. Everyone's faces began to change when they saw the defence of this 'cowardly' young master. This situation reminded Thomas of little boss's instructions to avoid frontal confrontation with Divit. But it was already too late.

Fear was an emotion that had to be sustained with sudden shock, ignorance, haste and overwhelming power. The influence of this fear could not be prolonged in the current scenario if the victim was given time to calm down and think, especially if the target had no solid reason to fear. Forgetting such a crucial factor was the mistake that Thomas had made. They had revealed that they had no power over Divit.

If they had not continued to attack Divit and stayed put, Divit might not be sure about his enemies and might 'imagine' incredibly formidable enemies lying in wait to kill him. The fear of the 'unknown' was genuine and practical. But by continued assault and dealing zero damage to him, Divit would figure out that he had nothing to fear. That was what transpired precisely.

That moment of little clarity was enough for Divit to remember his elder brother Ivaan's words when he had given this sheet of liquid-like cloth material to him.

'This is a Class IV Madaktus, it a level above the equipment given to the Auxilia. This creature is not allowed to be given to anyone outside of the Organisation. Even I am only eligible to wear a Class III Madaktus. Father sold a lot of favours to get it for you. He feared for your safety as the world would become a less secure place in the near future. Class IV Madaktus has extra features than the Class V, but why would I waste my time explaining them to you?"

"In simple language, this piece of cloth will protect you from most of the conventional weapons. Well, as long as you don't stand in front of a tank or a missile, you can survive any other attack. Well, if a high-level member of the Organisation attacks you, this cloth would not be able to save you. Just feed your blood to it, and it will recognise you as its host. When combined with the five generations of GAD (Genetically Amplifying Drugs) that you were injected, only another member from the Organisation can take you on a one to one fight."

Divit's soul fluttered when he remembered these words. He had almost forgotten that he possessed an extra defence as it was never put into use before. Divit had used his 'enhanced' strength more than once but not the 'defence cloth'. So, Divit had no idea about the true capabilities of his defence. This lack of knowledge led to Divit losing his mind when he saw the dead bodies of his security personnel.

Divit knew that this piece of cloth was a living organism which fed on his blood daily. This Madaltus thing moved like fluid and could change its shape, form, transparency and thickness based on his will. Usually, small root-like fibrous structures would attach themselves to his spine. One of Divit's bodyguard had said that it because of this connection that the 'cloth' knew it's master's thoughts.

As for food, the same fibrous structures would penetrate Divit's peripheral blood vessels for nutrition. The Madaktus does it when the host is asleep, and no pain is caused when it feeds. There was also a special fluid which Divit had to feed it every month for its 'special' needs. He was too lazy to remember this, but that is why servants are there, right?

Class V Madaktus did not have the high-level shape-changing feature. The speed and effectiveness was minimal. Hence the Auxilia usually dr.a.p.ed themselves with it, at all times. But Divit could remove this cloth when he was bathing or modify it into an innerwear if he was swimming. The thing that Divit liked about this Cloth was that it had a temperature regulation function. If the climate was scorching, the 'cloth' could keep him cool and vice-versa.

After a few months, Divit had become accustomed to these small functions that he had forgotten its real purpose.

Divit felt his face heating up while remembering the pathetic performance that he put up by running away from the assailants. Divit had never experienced such humiliation and terror in his whole life. He had thought that he was going to die today. But now, this shame turned into boiling rage. Divit stood up and coldly gazed at these men who were covered in special forces tactical gear from head to toe. He was going to kill each one of these people to wash off his shame.

Thomas's heart thumped when he saw the murderous look in the eyes of this young master. If there was anything that Thomas had learnt in his life on the streets, it was the ability to smell danger. He could sense the change in the mood of the opposite party as clear as day.

Without a second thought, Thomas ordered, " Throw the smoke canisters and escape in all directions. Kill the lights. Do not engage this person; I repeat, do not engage him. Think only about escaping take cover."

Bang! Crash!!

Before Thomas's orders were executed, two people, who were in the front, crashed into the adjacent wall. Divit sinisterly grinned as he licked the spilt blood from his right hand. Before he could continue his slaughter, the lights went out.
