An Inevitable Fate?

Chapter 75 - 75: The press conference. (6)

Austin was standing in front of the door, crossing his hands in front of his c.h.e.s.t. He narrowed his eyes when he saw Aaron, coming out.

"What is this all about, Mr. Lee?"

"You can call me Aaron and, I need a favor from you."

Aaron easily dodged the question before diverting his attention.

Austin frowned when he heard the word 'favor'. As expected, he fell for the trick.

"What favor?"

"You might have to receive a package on behalf of me and, present it during the press conference. Can you do it?"

Aaron looked serious while talking which made Austin trust him. A little!

"What package?"

Aaron smiled which didn't reach his eyes. He wasn't going to tell him.

"You will see it at the conference. Can you do it?"

Austin rolled his eyes but in the end, nodded saying that he would do it.

"Thanks.... And, it's not gentlemanly to see others possession."

He smirked and went inside the room, leaving the furious Austin behind.

Austin was speechless when he heard the last statement about the great gentlemanliness.

'Is it not indirectly saying that I am not a gentleman? God, he must be nuts to ask me a favor and order me around. What, am I his assistant? No, I must be insane for agreeing to help him. Wait, he didn't tell me about the reason for holding the press. Argh!'

"Sir, the media have come already. What should we do, now?"

The assistant from the PR department asked politely for further instructions. But his politeness was not rewarded.

"Go dance with them! Who cares for anything here? Am I an errand boy for you people? Hah, do whatever the hell you want!"

He stormed off while cursing until he couldn't breathe.

By the time he disappeared, the assistant was covered in sweat.

'Gosh, he must be on periods.'

Aaron entered and saw Rachel standing in front of the mirror in a daze.

She was wearing a simple floral, knee-length dress with frills. The dress and the white low-heeled shoes must have made her look lively but it failed.

Even with a slight make-up, her face looked tired. A thousand thoughts were going on in her mind.

He approached her from behind and stared at her eyes in the mirror. They had lost the shine and hope.

"Ready?"

His tone brought her back from the daze as she shook her head to clear her mind before replying.

"Yes, I need to talk to the manager, I will be back."

He gave his consent to her knowing that it was nothing but an excuse to leave the room.

He knew what she wanted the most at this time. Space!

Now that she had left, his gentle smile was replaced with a grim. He loosened his tie with frustration.

He opened his mobile but there were no notifications.

Damn, it was almost time!

He changed into a black suit paired with a black shirt and shiny black leather shoes. He glanced at his mobile that was placed on the table while fixing the shimmering white tie.

He just couldn't wait any longer.

He dialed and a familiar voice came through.

"Boss! Miss me, already?"

Aaron was on the verge of rolling his eyes.

"Cut the crap, already!"

Oops, his boss was angry.

"Did you get it? How much more time do you need?"

Now, it was Mark's turn to roll his eyes. His boss was too short-tempered! Maybe, the word 'Patience' didn't exist in his boss's dictionary.

'Sigh! I should gift him a new dictionary on his birthday!'

'Boss, spare me some till will you? It's not easy to deal with government officials, okay? Try doing the stuff on your own, you will get to know how much we need to bribe them if not, blackmail them!'

This is what he wanted to tell but, can he? Nope, he can't! Why? Because, he is an obedient side character who listens to the male lead, always!

So, he shamelessly replied!

"Don't worry, boss! Your man here is too capable, I will send it before the conference starts! Also, the phone numbers have been deactivated, so I need some time to track the location."

"Make it fast!"

"Sure, I will-"

And, the call ended!

Mark's mouth twitched. He didn't get to complete his words! How rude!

Aaron's eyes were sharp like an eagle as he was calculating his steps.

He wanted to curse at Rachel for not seeking his help before. He could have simply solved it without all these complications.

His thoughts were interrupted by a knock.

"You know, we need to go."

It was Austin's voice.

Aaron nodded before taking one last look in the mirror.

Just as he reached the corridor, he saw Rachel spacing around.

"Hey,"

She saw him and tried to smile but her anxiousness betrayed her.

"Don't worry, I will take care of everything."

That unexpectedly warmed her heart. Her nervousness didn't die completely but she sure felt better.

She nodded with great determination.

"Let's go,"

He effortlessly put his arm around her waist and entered the room filled with reporters, who started to flash their cameras eagerly for the juicy news.
