A Curious Case Of Mobs Extra

The first week of trial studies has ended. I already decide what my studies for the semester will be. I have been to all the class, I listen to the lectures and finally deciding to take Herbology, Ancient Language, Basic Smithing, and Runes. Except for Herbology, another three elective classes are a predecessor to Enchantments Class.

There is also a required class that needs to be taken for the rest of the two years. Among them is Meditation, spells casting, and cultivation studies. Cultivations in this world are different from how normally those Chinese novel cultivate. I don't know the specifics yet, but I have a feeling it was far different. Maybe there will be some similarities and maybe it is not. let time will tell.

We were given a week of free time to do whatever we want. Therefore, I choose to familiarize myself with how the sect work. The introduction class during the first week are done on the island 831 and was conducted by the seniors ourselves. However, the real classes will be on the main island. Going to visits the main island is my main activity for today.

I arrive at the underground lift at the Hakka tower not long after. The lift to underground station took me ten stories deep from the ground floor. The train station is enormous, its well lit and unmanned. We just wave our stone pendant at the scanner, then the formation field just opens up for that person. There are some stores selling food and drinks like any train station on the old earth. When I wave my stone pendant, the is a blue holographic box notification popping up. It does not say anything, but just showing a number '-10'. Does it show my account value? Is that why they asked us to open an account at the central bank as soon as possible. I'm lucky because that was one of my itinerary for the main island visit today.

Even at these early hours, many disciples have been waiting for the train for quite sometimes. Most of the disciples are the seniors. However, there is some new disciples mix in between. We wait for the train for several minutes and then it arrives. The train looks similar to Hogwart express except with one main point missing, there is no smokes came out from the smokestack, only steams blowing from the boiler.

The train was enchanted with enlargement enchantments. The layout was designed with a conventional train layout design. Two sets of chairs on both side and at the front and the back of the carriage, facing each other with a table between those chairs. Seeing the carriage almost empty, I choose a seat at the end of the carriage and takes out the diary of Marcello Diaz, my previous house occupant.

There are several sets of his diaries found in the studies. What I read during the first day of moving in is just his latest. His diaries, also concurrently serve as his enchanting notes has been my source inspiration for the past week. After I found the stash, I start to sort the diaries chronologically and has been my reading material from the past week.

Marcello can be called eccentric by the previous earth standard. His main passion is enchanting, most of his earliest diaries are filled with a rambling of a mad man if you don't have a patient to go through his writing properly. After you passed the first hurdles to understanding his diaries, then you will be greeted by a treasure trove about enchantments and all its related discipline. The eccentricity is less obvious the older he became and the newest diaries are filled with regrets for haven't spent enough time in cultivation. The regrets of not elevating his status from a mere expendable resource into a somewhat precious foundation establishment stage cultivators or elders. He also regrets because his life span finally ending even though there still tonnes of questions about The Enchantments unanswered.

Marcello's studies in enchanting are magnificent. The diaries became one of the reasons I'm selecting the predecessor enchantments as an elective because I want to understand what was written on his diaries and maybe one day have enough understanding to continue on his studies in enchantments.

The train stop at the island 831 stations for several minutes. The horn was sounded indicating the train ready to leave the stations. Not long after, another horn sound and then the train start to move forward. Inch by inch, we are leaving the well-lit cavern into the dark tunnel.

The tunnel sometimes was lit by a blue moss. The blue glow from the moss was welcoming since as far as my eye can see, there is only darkness. The most surprising was, we were in the dark tunnel only for sometimes. The tunnel end at the bottom of the cliff, and the train just drive through the surface of the river like there is a rail on the water. It made me remember a manga of a certain pirate that wants to be a pirate king.

We went through several unhabitable islands such as an island that made from a mangrove like a tree. I know that it was not a mangrove because the mangrove does not grow in freshwater. We also came around several fish monsters that keep attacking the train. However, their action were futile, they were blown away by the train automatic defense system. They were not that hard to kill, a projectile fired from the gun for each monsters already killing everything in that monsters group. The train even slows down at a crawling speed for several seconds and a group of seniors jumps out of train picking up the corpse of that monster fish. It is free for all picking for those who fast enough to pick it up and in seconds, nearly two dozens fish monster corpse are picked clean and the train readjust the speed and continued the journey.

One of the seniors that pick up the fish landed on my carriage. She decides to take over the table in front of me and put the corpse of a huge fish monster on it. The fish monster is big, five feet long, two feet wide and weight maybe 200 to 300 kilos. The table was creaking but holding on to the fish weight.

"Hey kid...sorry, kinda need to take over your space for a while," Asked the girl that strong enough to flung around 300 kilos of dead fish like she's carrying a sardine.

"Not at all seniors, go ahead, I can go to another seat," I answered while moving away from the table.

"Thanks, kid. Hey...why don't you help me clean this up, and I'll give half the money selling this thing. I kind of too lazy to do it myself." she asked looking at me with a look that can kill someone's if they breathe the wrong word of what they want to hear.

What is wrong with this woman, the f.u.c.k did I do. Well, I don't want to die so I agreed. "Sure senior I'll do it, but I don't think I'm strong enough to butcher this thing."

"Don't worry kid, this is just a level zero monster. so their corpse is not too tough but just big. Have you ever gut a fish before?" she asked.

I nodded answering my question. She then took a big bucket, several clean white cloths, a foot and half long Japanese fish knife, a standard size kitchen knife, a cleaver, and a handful of bottled water. The fish look like a big size trout. There is a yellow and black dot around its body and a blue-greenish line alongside its body dividing the top side and the bottom side of the fish.

"How do you want this prepare senior? Just gut it or fillet?" I asked while cleaning the fish with white cloth. Looking at her again, she just shrugged her shoulders. I guess it is up to me to do what best for my well being. I can make it safe by just gutting the fish and be done with it, but judging by the blinking notifications at the edge of my view, she is one of the MCs of this world or something new altogether. I'm gonna gambled and try to fillet the fish so my friendly point went up allowing me to know closer with the girl.

After cleaning the fish with the help of the girl (too big and too heavy for me to flip it over), I start to gut the fish first. The uninterested girl suddenly took an interest in my job and right now hounding at my back. I took a foot and a half long butcher knife and start to cut the head of the fish from behind its flappers and move it toward the belly. The knife is so sharp, the effort to cut the fish meat bellow the neck are nearly effortless.

"Hey kid, you quite good at this. What your name again?" she asked.

Duh, cooking is a passion in my past life. Cooking, urban farming, and backyard smithing is the only thing that held me together from the routine and boringness of the old world. Without those three passion, I probably commit suicide after the third year working at the office. "I have some experiences. I'm Mobs Extra, you can just call me mobs. What do I call you senior?"

"Mobs like NPC mobs?"

"Huh, what an NPC?". Damn it, another one from another world.

"Nothing, just forget about it. I'm Evangeline Lionheart. You can call me Eva."

"Sure, nice to meet you senior Eva," I replied while continuing the cutting process. When the cuts are done, I took the cleaver and start hacking the neck bone. The bone are so hard, I look toward senior Eva for some help. She take over the cleaving process and proceeds to hack the neck bone and snapping the fish head from the body. I move the head to the sides and start to cut the fish belly to clean up the guts. I pull all the gut into the bucket and start cleaning all the fish drops of blood on the table and floors. It is not easy cutting down a giant fish on a moving train but I try to do a clean job as much as I can.

I tried to fillet the fish too but suddenly, the train start to slowing down again. The train already stops several times during my cleaning process to pick up several more passengers on the other island but this time, a horn was sounded indicating we are approaching the main island stations. So, I stop the butchering process and start to clean other things too.

"Its done senior Eva. I just have enough time to cut the head only." I explained. "If you're willing to wait, I can continue after we arrive if you can find the space to cut it down into fillets."

"Good idea. Where you're headed?" she asked.

"I'm planning to open up an account at the bank and maybe wander around looking for some supplies before the class starts."

"Good, I have an idea where you can continue processing my fish. As a payment, why don't I, your sister shows you around the main island today."

"Sure, no problems."

"Where did you learn to do all that?" She asked me with a genuine interest in my so-called talents.

"It is my dads, in my hometown, we have a small noodle store specializing in fish noodle soup. I never was done cutting up the fish as big as this one, but the concept is the same. It was a fun experience for me, I can feel like my father still alive and teaching me about how to cut that fish down. Thanks, senior for giving me the experience. Even if you do not pay my share of the fish, I'll do it for free."

"Oh... I'm sorry."

"No...no problem. It just bringing back the old memories."

"All right, then just follow me when we arrive. It gonna be a hectic place. Don't lose sight of me. If you got lost somehow, just asked for direction for Leaping Carp's Inn. I'll be there."

"Sure, I will," I replied.

"Good." She said.

When the trains stop, I went out of the train and keep following senior Eva. The train station is huge beyond anything I ever have seen before. Tens of trains parked and ready to leave at any time. Rows upon rows of stores and shop selling all kind of things an most of them I don't even know about. I force to shut down my curiosity first because I don't want to lost sight of senior Eva. Who knows what I will be missing if I don't follow this quest from the notification. Well, not quite quest like an RPG quest system, but only an indication on the notification about there is maybe something more on the horizon for me to explore.

The system never failed me so far, it gave me the orb for my future use. Granted that I still can't cultivate and gathering Mana, so the orb activation is on hold for a while. If I finally can start to charge the orb, all the benefits will belong to me only. Therefore, for now, let follow this 'plot storyline' and enjoy the benefits the system will give to me.
