A short walk away, I came across a wonderful 24-hour store. As soon as I entered the store, the assassin quickly removed my hand and walked into the back of the store.

“I’m going to go buy something.”

The assassin turned around, said these words to me, and went on her own. I felt it was not okay to follow her, so I looked at the snack corner.

As I was looking at the set of sandwiches with nothing but eggs in them, I turned around to see a quick tug on my sleeve from behind.

“Sagami… I’m sorry, but can you lend me some money? I don’t have any money.”

So says the assassin, asking for money. Now I can understand how a grandpa who buys everything for his grandchildren feels.

Well, I never had a grandpa, though.

“Can I get 10,000 yen? I’m not buying anything that expensive.”

“Yeah, no problem. Come on, let’s get out of here. I’m sleepy.”

“Yeah, okay.”

So says the assassin standing in line at the register, and I’m standing next to her. Don’t people think we look like a married couple? You could buy more. Or rather, I want her to buy more!

And don’t look at the assassin so much. You damn cashier. I’m the only one who can look at an assassin with that kind of gaze.

I looked at the assassin, and she was staring not at me but at the fried food next to the cash register.

“You want some? ”

She looked surprised when I asked her that, then she coughed once, regained her calm face, and turned her body around.

“Eating a meaningless meal can affect your work. A late-night meal from this hour is… I think it’s bad.”

The assassin shakes her head and recomposes herself, trying not to think about anything else. I am jealous of the fried chicken that attracts the assassin’s mind just by existing.

As the bill is about to be paid, I call out to the cashier.

“Excuse me, can I have a piece of fried chicken, please?”

“got it.”

I get an unenthusiastic reply, and the assassin gives me an earful. Each such movement shakes me to the core.

“I said I don’t want it, didn’t I? ”

I mumble back to the concerned assassin.

“You’re my girlfriend now. You can live your life the way you want.”

” …I don’t know if that’s true.”

“And if you don’t want fried chicken, I’ll eat it. ”

I ask with a laugh, to which the assassin replies with a bit of a bite. She tiptoed and stood up a little taller, like a child.

“I’ll eat it!”

As she said this, the cashier who was packing the fried chicken looked at her smilingly. Perhaps the assassin was embarrassed and looked down and received the food.

When I got the change to follow the assassin out of the store, the cashier said only one word to me.

“She’s a lovely girlfriend.”

“Yes, I’m very proud of her.”

While I was having such a conversation, the assassin turned around and gave me a suspicious look, so I hurried to the assassin.

By the way, you may imagine the cashier as a middle-aged man, but she was a beautiful blonde woman of about 20s years old.

The assassin made a jealous sound and puffed up her face.

“…What were you talking with that Nē-san? ”

“Well, we were talking about the assassin.”

“Be serious! What were you talking about?! ”

The assassin was hitting me, but her force was so weak that it was almost like a tickle. We walked home, laughing at each other through the night.
